Donovan Fandre started his career as a space science lecturer for NASA. In that capacity he lectured two groups across the USA and even traveled to India for a special educational program. When we reached the moon he decided that the space program could go on without his help and he could pursue other interests.
Because of his avocation for cooking and from dining experiences around the world, he opened a couple of restaurants and a wholesale, gourmet food business in Marin County, California.
When microwave ovens burst on the scene he entered into a partnership with “Friedmans Microwave Ovens” to sell the best ovens available and teach how to really cook with them.
To impart his microwave knowledge and cooking skills to the mass market he joined a television production company and produced a cooking series called, “Microwaves Are for Cooking.” This led to the production of “The Microwave Master” series with PBS station KQED in San Francisco. These programs aired nationally for about 10 years on SPN, PBS stations and The Learning Channel. He has appeared many times on “Good Morning America,” “Regis & Kathie Lee,” Joan Lunden’s “Mother’s Day” and other nationally televised shows on The Nashville Network and Home & Garden TV. As the Microwave Master he demonstrated microwave cooking on most major television stations in the USA. Feature articles about his energy and time saving tips have appeared in most major newspapers and several magazines including Parade, Family Circle and Working Mother.
He currently tests and creates cooking manuals for various cooking appliances and cookware that, in many cases, he presents on the shopping channels.
With current lifestyles that seldom allow for time consuming cooking and the continuing energy crisis he hopes to produce another television and web series featuring energy-efficient cooking using “JumpStart” techniques. The start of this endeavor is here on your screen with “jumpstartcooking.com”, a brand new website devoted to everything about microwave cooking!
Why the new website? Well, we asked Donovan and he had quite a bit to say. Donovan writes:
“I get so frustrated to see and hear all the misinformation available that I’m forced to offer these common-sense tips, techniques, and recipes so microwavers can get the most out of their wonderful, efficient, and versatile microwave oven. To use your microwave for reheating, defrosting, and maybe an occasional baked potato, instead of your primary cooking appliance, is like have a 100 mpg automobile and using it just for listening to the radio.”
Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We look forward to the blessings of Donovan’s knowledge! Tune in every week for a new video or every day for a new blog post or recipe. Be sure to leave comments! The web is all about interactivity, so we want to hear from you.
