Grilling potatoes

Recently in my local paper there was a tip in the food section offered by a very successful and noted food writer. He suggested that baked potatoes would add a delicious side to a 4th of July cookout. But, of course nobody wants to crank up their oven to bake some potatoes so why not cook them on the grill which will be in operation for most of the meals. His technique was to wrap the potatoes in foil and place them to the side of the coals or gas flame and cook them for 40-50 minutes or until tender. Holy taters!!! You’d think this guy never heard of a microwave oven. The best way to cook potatoes for a grilled meal is to microwave them until tender, about 5-7 minutes for a medium size spud and then place them on the coals or gas flame for just a few minutes to get the flavor of the grill on the potatoes. Couldn’t be easier and better than the foil wrapped potatoes because they won’t get the flavor of the grill. You save time and energy by combining your microwave with other cooking devices so get with it and cook the modern “green” way.
